1486T / TAI [TV]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for 1486T / TAI.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Field roll. Hold control at one end.
  • At switch on there is lots of crackling; picture takes approx 30 mins to appear.
  • Intermittent humming and tripping.
  • No s/v and tripping.
  • No picture. Sound OK.
  • No colour.
  • Field collapse. No picture.
  • Picture is unstable and disappears after one min.
  • Stand by LED lights up. At switch on, relay click heard but nothing happens.
  • Bright raster, sound O/K.
  • Weak contrast.
  • No signal.
  • Intermittently dead.
  • Stores in memory all locations (1-6) have same information stored in them at same time.
  • Low gain intermittently.
  • Horizontal line.
  • Does not switch to standby (only sound disappears) and picture jitters
  • Tripping. Poor or noisy start up.
  • Dull picture or dull single colour.
  • Poor frame linearity.
  • Bent verticals.
  • Humming noise and tripping on and off.
  • No tuning.
  • Trapezoid picture.
  • Motorboating for five mins.
  • No picture. Motorboating.
  • No functions. Standby LED does not light.
  • No picture or sound, drop outs.
  • Lots of crackling, after approx 30 minutes the picture might appear.
  • Intermittently picture turns to snow. (TAI - 1486T information)
  • Can be tuned perfectly but when memorising all locations (1-16) have memorised the same information.
  • Red is missing on teletext.
  • Goes dead after 5 mins.
  • Teletext colour problems.
  • Small frame.
  • White screen. Retrace lines.
  • Intermittent frame, picture and or sound.
  • Ragged verticals.
  • No luminance. (service info for TAI -1486T)
  • Contrast problems.
  • Weak and snowy picture when switched on. Does not tune in, only first station stays in memory.
  • Intermittent loss of sync, blank raster, no sound, switches to standby and LED channel display goes off.
  • Set comes on with blank raster and no channel indicators alight.
  • Incorrect brightness.
  • Tuner drift, no signals.
  • Power supply is tripping.
  • Cannot switch TV off using RCU.
  • Intermittent red in picture.
  • One colour missing.
  • Flyback lines.
  • No picture and frame collapse. Sound OK.
  • Intermittent frame bounce often when first switched on. On-going problem - new frame and synch ICs have been fitted.
  • When the set is switched on the set trips.
  • No start-up. Standby OK.
  • On/off button keeps jumping out.
  • Comes on dark and gradually goes overbright.
  • Teletext problems.
  • Intermittent loss of tuning voltage on sweep tuning sets.
  • Loud noises from appliance which affect the sound and/or picture.
  • Raster is bright with flyback lines. (1486T tips)
  • Dark picture.
  • Snow in picture. No tuning.
  • Bright raster with flybacks.
  • Sound ok, but no EHT and only about 1V of drive at the base of the line output transistor Q111.
  • No sound or picture, just motorboating from speaker. (TAI - 1486T information)
  • Channel lights up. H.T. present.
  • After switching on, the first command using the RCU does not function.
  • No start-up.
  • No picture and uncontrollable motorboating and screeching from loudspeaker.
  • No picture and sound, dropout.
  • No picture, loud hum.
  • Picture and sound cut out intermittently.
  • Vertical collapse.
  • Dead.
  • Field bounce with teletext reception.
  • No start-up from standby.
  • Bright screen and flyback lines.
  • Line collapse and incorrect width.

  • No picture or sound. Burning smell may be present.
  • Incorrect height.

  • Loud hum at switch on
  • No vertical deflection.
  • Green cast at top quarter of picture, red cast at bottom quarter.
  • Switches to standby.
  • F802 blown.
  • Picture goes red intermittently.
  • Defective infra-red transmitter.
  • Switches automatically on. Standby key doesn't function.
  • Switches on automatically. Standby key does not function.
  • Appliance will not switch on from standby.
  • Vertical roll.
  • Recycling tripping.
  • Intermittently mains fuse blows.
  • Grey colour bars.
  • No picture. No audio.
  • Flickering LED display/no remote control.
  • Tripping.
  • Appliance turns itself on, standby key not working.
  • Intermittent colour.
  • No RC functions.
  • Slow start-up. (TAI - 1486T information)
  • Loud hum at switch on and ragged verticals. (service info for TAI -1486T)
  • Channel lights up. High voltage is present.
  • Loud hum at switch on.
  • Field roll, or insufficient height.
  • Tunes in ok but stores same info on all 16 progs.
  • Intermittent volume.
  • No picture and sound.
  • The volume is intermittent and increases momentarily.
  • Just noise on picture, no tuning or channel change LED
  • Does not function intermittently.
  • Picture turns to snow, audio comes up, channel LEDs switch off.
  • No picture.
  • High brilliance
  • Streaky pictures when captions displayed; dark bands across screen.
  • Low A1 voltage.
  • Vertical shaking.
  • Bent verticals and ragged picture.
  • Loss of channel selection and uncontrollable sound when the set has been on for a while.
  • Defective infra-red receiver.
  • Dead except whistle.
  • Snowy screen. No channel light. No signals. No sound.
