414RC / TAURUS [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

List of fault symptoms:
  • No capstan. Servo locked after machine warmed up.
  • Will not accept tapes and supply spool turning all the time.

  • Tape speed is slow or very slow.
  • In PB pre-recorded cassettes are erased, therefore no PB or recording possible.

  • No lacing up.
  • In PB drum runs too slow for approx 5 secs before returning to normal.
  • No picture (in viewfinder).
  • Intermittently tape does not rewind and then appliance switches to stop.
  • At start of cassette, lower part of tape is damaged.
  • After pressing play, rew or FF button appliance switches to standby. Head drum twitches for a short time. Tape is not laced up.
  • Drum servo and capstan servo do not start.
  • SECAM 1/2fH tune adjustment procedure. (414RC tip from TAURUS)
  • Switching position adjustment.
  • Intermittent changes speed from LP / SP.
  • Eats tapes. Makes mechanical grinding noise.
  • No servo operations.
  • Cassette is ejected after briefly running forward. (414RC tip from TAURUS)
  • No colour during a recording.
  • No function in PLAY, REC, FF and REW.
  • FF and rewind slow, no servo lock in playback.
  • The edge of the tape is creased.
  • During play the cassette is ejected after playing for some time.
  • Damaged tape edge. (TAURUS - 414RC information)
  • FF/REW does not work properly. Cassette is ejected.
  • Machine shuts down as soon as functions start.
  • REC current adjustment. (414RC tips)
  • Appliance does not accept any cassette.
  • Capstan motor runs too slowly.
  • No tape transportation.
  • Clock display is missing and cassettes are not accepted.
  • The appliance does not recognise the beginning and end of tape.
  • No colour in PB.
  • No eject.
  • Tape is damaged at the edges.
  • Colour flickers during playback of a pre-recording.
  • Tape damaged on bottom edge.
  • During PLAY and REC speed is slow.

  • A few seconds after insertion the cassette is ejected again.
  • In play speed, FF and REW run slowly and picture search is missing.
  • PB and FF/REW are too slow.
  • Display lights up for 5 secs at switch on then display becomes --:--. Does not accept cassette. No function.
  • In PB switches to forward picture search.
  • No function. Only display lights up.
  • No FF or REW. After Play, sometimes the threading bolts are not in the base position.
  • Picture is very noisy in PB. It seems like the video head is defective.
  • The lower edge of the tape is damaged at the beginning of the cassette.
  • Crystal oscillation adjustment procedure.
  • Does not reel.
  • No picture in tuner mode. Appliance cannot be tuned. EE mode and PB ok.
  • No synchronisation of capstan.
  • No colour during PB and REC. (414RC tips)
  • Drum PG/FG polarity adjustment procedure. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • No drum/head rotation.
  • CTL preset adjustment. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • No PB picture.
  • Accepts cassette, runs for a short time and then ejects cassette.
  • Cassette jammed inside the appliance.
  • Eats tapes. Makes grinding mechanical noise.
  • No switch on. Display is dark.
  • In PB, drum motors and capstan run too slow for approx 1 sec then run correctly.
  • Switches off if you press play, REW or FF.
  • Back tension arm sticking.
  • Machine runs at slow speed.

  • No function. PSU is defective.
  • Chews tapes then switches off.
  • Loud operation noise after a short period in PB. Tapes are very bent at top.

  • Video head doesn't turn.

  • The lower edge of the tape is damaged.
  • Colour is blurred during PB of cross-colour.

  • Does not accept tape.
  • Rewind does not always function. Does not always lace up fully. (414RC TAURUS repair tip)
  • No more functions after operating for a long time. Refuses cassette.
  • The edge of the tape creases.
