R3000 / TCE [Video recorder (drive)]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for R3000 / TCE.
List of fault symptoms:
- Intermittent looping.
- Does not load tape. No PB or FF or REW. Goes off after this cycle. Loads cassette OK at switch on. (R3000 tips)
- Goes into safety mode in REW or FF. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- While monitoring, the picture pumps. Permanently switches between PAL and SECAM.
- No Monitoring.
- No loading of the cassette (permanently or intermittently). (with circuit diagram extract)
- Full page blue background when on screen display is switched to full page mode, Often replaced by noisy picture. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Display is weak and impossible to see in standby.
- No UPB.
- No reel action. Accepts tape but ejects it with loose tape.
- Adjustment of the modulator using the remote control handset.
- No erase. intermittently.
- Dim display. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No counting and no counting down after 8 secs. Tape spills. PB and REC ok. (picture attached)
- Loud noise at coils.
- Power supply transistor blows. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Tape is damaged. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- OSD does not function well. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- If you programme one channel, the same programme can be found on all the buttons. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- PSU does not start up or starts up poorly.
- Little colour flashes on a dark background.
- If the machine takes in a tape but the threading poles move slightly then stop.
- Colour at the low end of the range, black and white at the top of the range. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Does not go into PB, REW or FF. Ejects cassette. Loading OK. Noise when unloading.
- Picture becomes a line. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Change of language.
- Child protection lock does not work from the RCU.
- After successive loading and unloading, the VCR goes to channel 1.
- Picture is distorted in SECAM PB by white dots forming crossed lines. (R3000 tip from TCE)

- No tape loading. No display. Drum stops after a second.
- Tripping.
- Flashes of colour during PB of a channel recording.
- Contents of Thomson mono chassis power supply repair kit.
- Power supply pulsates and sometimes starts up again without doing anything. (picture attached)
- In PB intermittently goes into safety mode after a few secs. Functions when appliance is open and without a hood.

- Colour flickers by self REC.
- After disconnecting the VCR from the mains several times, no function and no display. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Switches off immediately in PB, and makes tape loop.
- Does not erase audio.

- RC Lock Out.
- No mechanical functions. Display OK .
- Noise bars in PB or in pause.
- Does not accept tape. Display and ON/OFF function OK.
- Does not unlace.
- Dead. PSU pulsates. After warm-up, appliance starts up.
- Former sound is not deleted.

- No start up in programming or in PB after stopping for 10 mins.
- Poor picture. via tuner. No picture. in REC.
- No eject. intermittently.
- PSU pulsates.
- Random functions.
- Tape does not go in completely causing functions to work incorrectly and a delay during Eject.
- Tape loops.
- S/C of the chip transistor TX25 (BC848b).
- Chews tapes. Loops tape when pressing STOP during PB and then goes to FF or REW. (R3000 tip from TCE)
- Poor ejection of the cassette.
- Black and white PB and in Monitoring. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Reel mechanism does not function.
- In PB, rough movement of the capstan motor into REW.
- No display. (picture attached)
- Noise when lacing up and unlacing.
- Tape is stuck inside appliance, cassette flap mechanism fails constantly.
- Does not accept tape (intermittently).
- Goes into safety mode at the very moment the programme recording starts.
- Does not accept cassette and head drum runs high intermittently
- Tape stuck inside appliance, no functions possible.
- When RF lead is connected the RCU does not function or has limited range on some receivers. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Power supply does not start up or erratic start up. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No mechanical functions.

- No functions. after power failure.

- No colour.
- Distorted audio (in E-E). (R3000 tip from TCE)
- No HF signal at the output of the tuner.
- Stops in PB after 20 to 30 mins. Display remains. Starts up again if you put it back to PB. (R3000 tip from TCE)
- Loading levers get stuck. Loading OK.
- Slight moire effect and white dots which are more or less visible by touching the wires coming from the preamplifier of the video heads in PB.
- Cassette jams in Eject.
- Intermittent take up during PB. Intermittent tape EJECT.
- Tape spills. No take-up.
- Very faint display, which becomes clearer when appliance warms up. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Now and again cassette is put down behind the flap.
- Fluctuation of LP record speed. Slight whistling of motor drum.
- Stops in Play, ejects cassette. Sometimes tape loops at Eject.
- Does not take up tape. Right reel table has no function.
- Does not eject the cassette. HF on video channel. PB OK. TV channels OK.
- Mechanism stuck with fully loaded tape.
- Tape is ejected. in PB.
- No RC functions.
- Occasionally cassette compartment flap sticks at eject. (service info for TCE -R3000)
- Noise in picture.
- PSU needs a long time until it functions after power failure. Appliance accepts control functions only later.

- Incomplete erasure. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

- Stripes and peaks in picture, also in EE mode.
- PSU voltage pulsates. (service info for TCE -R3000)
- Cassette flap mechanism fails repeatedly resulting in tape being jammed inside machine.
- Does not load the cassette. If a button is pressed, P1 is displayed for 2 secs then appliance switches to standby. No function. Display shows 00.00. (R3000 tips)
- 0000 on the display, VCR takes the cassette. All the data arrives at the system microcalculator of the display. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Excessive red. in REC. (R3000 TCE repair tip)

- Right reel doesn't turn.
- Display is weak and variable with the mechanical functions. Weaker in standby. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Does not function without a cassette.
- Tape stuck.
- Eats tape.

- Untimely triggering of the RIR ZK01 circuit type TFMT5330.
- Does not erase audio (intermittently). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Tape is not pulled into the cassette, no take up of the tape through the right reel table.
- No picture. in PB.
- Power supply circuit.
- No output voltage. TP01 pulsates at collector.
- Inadequate PB and no eject. Loads OK.
- Cassette jams during PB. No function.

- Power supply pulsates when appliance is plugged in then starts up after a few minutes. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Poor picture.
- Spikes in picture during Play, simultaneously display is too dark especially in STANDBY mode.
- Adjustment of the switching points.
- Not accepting casette, intermittently head drum runs out of control. (service info for TCE -R3000)
