KX90E / YASHICA [Camcorder - 8mm]

List of fault symptoms:
  • Ejection of cassettes is defective, blocked mechanically.

  • Blurred, jumping picture in viewfinder. Impossible to adjust picture sharpness.
  • Switches off after a short time. Take-up reel jolts.

  • RK gear goes under supply reel in REW and breaks.
  • Tape stuck in mechanism, no functions. Loads OK.
  • Unit will not close door. When applying power, mechanism ejects OK, but will not set back to load/unload state.
  • Cassette compartment will not release.
  • Only about half of picture is visible horizontally in the EVF.
  • EVF video weak and out of sync.
  • No playback or record colour.
  • Emphasis input level adjustment.
  • Cassette ejects but new cassette cannot be inserted.
  • EVF picture dark. E-E OK.
  • No picture.
  • TG1 arm falls out.
  • Intermittent transport.
  • No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement.
  • Does not accept tape.
  • Part number information. Rotary upper drum assembly replacement.
  • Spare parts information - Crystal X801 on AU86 board.
  • ATF servo fails during PB.
  • Tape spills out when REW is selected.
  • Broken focus ring, zoom OK.
  • FL mechanism changes.
  • Switching position adjustment.
  • No eject intermittently. Capstan motor possibly doesn't rotate. Intermittently ejects. Capstan motor not rotating.
  • Sometimes no sound is recorded. (YASHICA - KX90E information)
  • Door will not close.
  • No eject. Powers down with caution indicator blinking.
  • No tape loading, loads ok without a tape. No drum rotation.
  • Does not load tape.
  • Does not accept cassette. Mechanical crunching noise.
  • Failure of flexible membrane may result in various faults.
  • Mechanism loads halfway without cassette, rewinds a few seconds and stops.
  • Flying erase check.
  • Sync AGC adjustment.
  • Feedback chroma adjustment.
  • PB Y level 1 adjustment.
  • Blocks intermittently during tape unloading.
  • No playback, head rotating in wrong direction.
  • Closes and starts to load, then jams. (service info for YASHICA -KX90E)
  • Drum runs at high speed when power is applied.
  • Does not load tape. intermittently.
  • Irregular capstan motor.
  • Service information. Evr microprocessor data transfer on board replacement.
  • Lens problem after being dropped. Zoom/focus shaft may spring out of its fittings when the unit is dropped.
  • Automatic focus and zoom fail intermittently.
  • Will not load tapes (intermittently no rewind). Mechanism only half loads then slowly attempts to finish.
  • Intermittently does not accept tape.
  • After 5 min. no sound in playback.
  • Part number information. Replacement of leaf switch for Q (fl) mechanism.
  • No E-E colour.
  • Part number information. The shape of the drum base and the guide rail base has changed.
  • Date and time erased when power removed.
  • Half picture with vertical white line. E-E picture OK.
  • REC Y level adjustment.
  • When in REW, drum reverses. When loading the drum slows down, then the tape is unloaded.
  • Capstan FG offset adjustment.
  • Left and right audio separation poor on self record.
  • Eject inop ( TG-1 lever comes off it's guide )
  • Sound fails after 5 mins PB.
  • Cassette stuck in appliance and "caution" warning is displayed.
  • Switches continuously from SP to LP.
  • Mechanical noise. Mechanical noise during rew, or noise captured during REC.
  • Tape jams.
  • Irregular loading. The cass tape may stick to the drum resulting in the tape being ejected. (last emergency - drum pg error).
  • Intermittently blocks.
  • No eject.
  • Camera switches off again immediately since the supply table is not driven.
  • Shuts down.
  • Mechanical noise in REW, PB and REC.
  • Loading motor is not driven. Does not load cassettes and does not eject them. (KX90E YASHICA repair tip)
  • Ticking noise from mechanism in all modes.
  • Cassette compartment won't rise
  • Does not load tape. No drum/head rotation.
  • Unstable picture. Oil on the tape or on the tape path may cause picture distortion, head clogging, tape eject or no drum rotation.
  • Delay burst phase adjustment.
  • No camera picture recorded. EE picture ok
  • PB Y level 2 adjustment. (KX90E YASHICA repair tip)
  • Eats tape.
  • Poor REC and PB luminance. Signal OK on IC203-31 but not pin 30. (KX90E YASHICA repair tip)
  • Part number information. Changes in cassette holder assembly.
  • Appliance will not record any camera picture. EE picture is ok.
  • REC C RF level adjustment.
  • Mechanical noise.
  • Loss of Y signal after a few minutes.
  • Destroys under side of tape.
  • Speed problem. T guide arm and rail base guide replacement procedure.
  • Part number information. The springs of the FL mechanism have been changed. There is no compatibility with the former types.
  • Mechanical noise. Mechanical noise during rew, or noise captured during REC.
  • Caution light on when loading.
  • Mechanism jammed. intermittently.
  • Buzz.
  • Does not accept tape. Closes OK without one.
  • No picture in E to E mode. There is no video output in the camera mode whereas in the player mode the video output proves faultless.
  • No eject. Other functions OK .
  • Warning LED flickers.
  • No unloading or ejecting of tape.. Although the unloading operation during eject is normal the cassette compartment does not rise. (YASHICA - KX90E information)
  • No PB luminance.
  • Does not REC picture, only sound.
  • Loads tape then ejects immediately.
  • No picture intermittently. In play mode the picture may blank after playing a few seconds, periodically re-appearing.
  • Unit loads half way. Drum fails to change direction, then unit unloads. (KX90E tip from YASHICA)
  • The take up reel table does not rotate with an inserted cassette.
  • No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement. (YASHICA - KX90E information)
  • Low audio level. Low level microphone sound. (KX90E YASHICA repair tip)
  • Chroma emphasis adjustment.
  • Does not REC Y signal. Correct monitoring.
  • Part number information. The FP-182 flexible board listed in the service manual does not include its connector. The numbers are listed below.
  • System clock adjustment.
  • Clicking noise in picture search function.
  • Does not load tape. No eject. Fault occurs intermittently. .
  • The zoom motor turns constantly and does not stop even if the T/W button is kept pressed down.
